About Cachoeira Véu de Noiva

Cachoeira Véu de Noiva is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the lower part of the Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, Brazil's first national park, created in 1937. The water runs down in several steps over a rock wall about 40 meters high, surrounded by Atlantic Forest.

It is part of the Complexo do Maromba, a group of waterfalls linked by short trails. On the way to it is the Cachoeira Itaporani, so you can see both on the same outing, and the Piscina do Maromba (pool) is near the start of the trail.

The trail is short and easy, with steps, small climbs and stretches of exposed roots, and it suits most visitors with some care. It is not wheelchair accessible.

There is barely a pool at the base, so Véu de Noiva is more for looking and taking photos than for swimming. It is usually less crowded than the Maromba waterfalls closer to the road.

Before you go

Practical information

How much time to set aside

About an hour to walk there, see the waterfall and come back; half a day if you want to add the other falls of the Complexo do Maromba.

Best time

In the rainy months, from December to March, the falls are fuller; in mid-morning the light filters better into the forest and there are fewer people, especially on weekdays.

How to get there

It is in the lower part of the Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, whose entrance is on the Estrada do Parque Nacional, about 14 km from downtown Itatiaia. From the entrance, drive along the park's internal road, past the Visitor Center, to the Complexo do Maromba parking lot; the trail starts at the Maromba bridge. There is no public transportation inside the park.

Tip

Wear sneakers with good grip, because the rocks and roots get slippery, and bring insect repellent. Buy your ticket in advance on the park's official website and check the hours there.
