About Morro do Elefante e Teleférico
Morro do Elefante is one of the best-known viewpoints in Campos do Jordão. It stands about 1,800 meters above sea level, just above Vila Capivari, and from the top you can see the neighborhood, the town and the mountains of the Serra da Mantiqueira.
The most famous way up is the chairlift from the Parque Capivari. Opened in 1970, it was the first chairlift in Brazil. Today it is mixed: there are open chairs with a safety bar and enclosed cabins, which allow pets.
At the top there is a viewpoint, a small garden with benches and trees and the Parque dos Elefantes, with elephant sculptures in playful scenes and signs telling the story of these animals. Entry to this area is free.
You can also drive up, in about ten minutes from Capivari, with free access; parking at the top is limited. The outing is easy and suits families with children; if you are afraid of heights, you may prefer the enclosed cabin or the car.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
An hour to an hour and a half is enough to ride up on the chairlift, take in the view from the lookout, stroll through the elephant garden and come back down.
Best time
On clear, dry days, common in fall and winter, the view of the Mantiqueira is sharper. In the morning there are usually shorter lines for the chairlift; in rain or strong wind it may stop.
How to get there
The chairlift leaves from the Parque Capivari, in Vila Capivari, the central area of Campos do Jordão. By car, the top of the hill is about ten minutes from Capivari, via the Jardim Belvedere neighborhood.
Tip
On the open chair, carry little luggage and hold your phone and camera tightly; if you have a pet, take an enclosed cabin.
