About Serra do Corvo Branco
The Serra do Corvo Branco is the mountain stretch of the SC-370 highway, which links Urubici, high in the Serra Catarinense, to Grão-Pará, on the way down to the southern coast of Santa Catarina. The road was opened in the 1980s.
The most famous spot is the rock cut: at the top of the mountains, the road passes through a gap cut into the mountain, between sandstone walls about 90 meters high. It is considered the largest cut in sandstone rock in Brazil. The altitude there is over 1,400 meters.
After the cut, the road descends the slope in very tight curves, with views of the valleys and, on clear days, the region's mountains. The name (White Crow) comes from the king vultures, light-feathered birds that early residents didn't recognize and nicknamed crows.
The outing is done by car, with stops for photos. It is a narrow, winding mountain road with sheer drop-offs: it calls for careful driving and is not recommended on days of thick fog or rain.
