About Sítio Arqueológico de São Miguel Arcanjo
The Sítio Arqueológico de São Miguel Arcanjo preserves the ruins of a Jesuit-Guarani settlement in São Miguel das Missões. The sandstone church and the remnants of the complex are part of the internationally recognized heritage, and their presence dominates the reading of the local historical landscape. The visit allows observation of the architecture, materials and the organization of a reduction without imaginatively reconstructing everything that has disappeared.
The authorized route helps distinguish the religious building from other archaeological areas. Interpretive information can show how the inhabitants lived and how the complex changed, bringing the Guarani presence and the action of the missionaries into the visit.
Respect the boundaries and do not climb on the walls. The stones are heritage, and no fragment should be removed. To walk through the open area, consider the weather and ground conditions; entry, orientation and special activities must be confirmed with those responsible before scheduling.
