About Orla Taumanan

The Orla Taumanan is Boa Vista's main gathering place on the Rio Branco. It is in the historic center, on the right bank of the river, and is made up of platforms raised on pillars that extend over the water, linked by walkways and promenades.

The structure opened in July 2004 and became one of the capital's landmarks. Next to it are the Parque do Rio Branco and the Mirante Edileusa Lóz tower, so you can combine all three on the same day.

From the platforms you see the very wide Rio Branco, the Ilha de São Sebastião, the Ponte dos Macuxis and, on clear days, the Serra Grande in the background. In the dry season, sandbars appear in the middle of the river. The riverfront has restaurants, bars, food kiosks, space for concerts and events and regional crafts for sale.

The walk is flat and easy, good for families, couples and anyone who just wants to sit and watch the river. During the day it is very hot and there is little shade on the platforms; it gets busier in the late afternoon and evening, when the river breeze cools things down and the restaurants fill up.

Practical information

How much time to set aside

An hour is enough to walk the platforms and see the river; allow more if you are having dinner or combining it with the Parque do Rio Branco and the viewpoint tower.

Best time

Early in the morning, to watch the sun rise over the Rio Branco, or in the late afternoon and evening, when the heat eases and the riverfront comes alive. In the dry season (roughly October to March) sandy beaches appear in the river; in the wet season the river is wider and fuller.

How to get there

It is in downtown Boa Vista, on the Rio Branco, on Rua Floriano Peixoto. From the historic center you can walk; from other neighborhoods, the most practical way is by car, taxi or ride-hailing app.

Tip

Go in the late afternoon, walk to the Parque do Rio Branco next door and stay for dinner on the riverfront when the river breeze cools things down.
