About Cachoeira do Barata
The Cachoeira do Barata is one of the waterfalls of the Serra do Tepequém, in the municipality of Amajari, in northern Roraima. It is among the most visited waterfalls in the mountains and is usually included in local guides' itineraries.
According to the Roraima Government tourist guide, the name comes from a former gold miner. Tepequém's history is tied to mining, which left its mark on the village and the plateau landscape.
The attraction is the pools. There is a pool at the top, just above the main fall, and another farther down, reached by climbing down beside the waterfall. Many visitors use the rock walls around the deep pools to jump into the water.
Access is easy, with a short descent. That is why it is the best waterfall for families with children and anyone who just wants a relaxed swim, without a long hike.
