About Praia de Itamambuca
Itamambuca is one of the best-known beaches in Ubatuba, on the northern coast of the city. It has about 2 km of sand, surrounded by Atlantic Forest with few buildings in sight. It is famous among surfers for its year-round waves.
At the right end, the Rio Itamambuca (river) runs alongside the sand and meets the sea. This stretch has calmer water and is the favorite of families with children. At the left end and in the middle of the beach, the waves are stronger and draw experienced surfers.
The beach hosts surf championship events and has surf schools and equipment rentals. Trails lead from the sand to neighboring beaches, such as the more secluded Praia Brava de Itamambuca.
Even when it is crowded, the size of the beach leaves plenty of room. Access is easy, by road, and requires no physical effort, except on the trails.
