About Lagoa Azul
Lagoa Azul is a lagoon of warm fresh water in Jijoca de Jericoacoara, next to Lagoa do Paraíso. It is smaller and more rustic than its famous neighbor, with fewer facilities and fewer people, which appeals to travelers looking for a calmer day.
The water changes shade with the sun, from blue to green, over a bottom of pale sand. In the most popular part there are hammocks and chairs set up in the water, where you while away the time with wet feet, and a stall with food and drinks on the shore.
Getting there is part of the outing: the car or buggy stays in a sand parking area, and the crossing to the swimming area is usually done on foot through a shallow stream or in small boats and rafts, depending on the water level.
The lagoon's volume depends on the rains. It is fuller and more beautiful after the rainy season, and lower at the end of the dry season. The water is shallow and calm near the shore, good for children and for people who are not strong swimmers.
