About Praia de Maceió

Praia de Maceió is a fishing village on the coast of Camocim, in the far west of Ceará, about 15 kilometers from downtown. It has nothing to do with the capital of Alagoas: it is a rustic beach, with a wide strip of pale sand, dunes, coconut palms and small cliffs.

The waves are low and swimming is good at the right tide. What made the beach famous, though, is the strong, steady wind, which draws kitesurfers and windsurfers. There are kite schools in the village, and the stretch between Maceió and Barra dos Remédios is used for downwind runs.

Fishing is still alive: the fishermen's traditional boats sit on the sand, heading out to sea under sail, by oar or with small motors. The village has vacation homes, pousadas, beach stalls and restaurants, but the vibe is still relaxed.

Behind the beach, the dunes hide small lagoons, such as Lago das Cangalhas. You can explore the area on ATV rides and watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. The beach is good for families looking for peace and quiet and for people who come to ride.
