About Barrinha
Barrinha, also called Barrinha de Baixo, is a small fishing village on the beach in Acaraú, the municipality next to Jijoca de Jericoacoara, on Ceará's west coast. It is east of Jericoacoara, past Praia do Preá, and usually appears as an extension of the buggy tour of the so-called East Side.
What stands out is the village's story: the movement of the dunes, pushed by the wind, gradually covered some of the old houses, and you can still see ruins among the sand hills. Some residents still make a living from fishing in the village.
The landscape is one of tall, pale dunes, with scattered coconut palms and views of the sea. In the rainy season, shallow lagoons of warm water form between the dunes. The sunset seen from the dunes is the big highlight, and tours usually arrive in the late afternoon.
Access along the strip of sand is only possible at low tide, so the outing has to be planned around the tide table. Walking and climbing the dunes takes some physical effort.
