About Morro do Cristo
Morro do Cristo (hill) is a small forested rise that closes off the south end of Praia Central (beach) in Guaratuba, on the Paraná coast. At the top stands a statue of Christ the Redeemer, which has become one of the town's symbols and appears on many of its postcards.
The hill is about 38 meters high and works as a natural viewpoint. From up there you see the whole curve of Praia Central to the hills at the mouth of the bay, as well as the open sea on the other side.
Access is by a stairway of almost 200 steps, which starts at the right-hand end of Praia Central. The climb is short but a bit tiring, especially in the heat. There is no wheelchair access, and if you have difficulty walking you can enjoy the hill from the sand.
The outing pairs well with a beach day: climb up in late afternoon, see the waterfront from above and come back down for a walk along the shore.
