About Parque Tanguá
Parque Tanguá is one of Curitiba's landmarks and has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the city. It is in the north, between the Taboão and Pilarzinho neighborhoods, and protects part of the Barigui River basin.
It was created in 1996 on the site of an old quarry, closed in the 1970s and abandoned for about two decades. The landscaping made use of the quarry's rock walls and created lakes at their foot. A tunnel cut through the rock links two of these lakes.
At the top is the belvedere, a semicircular structure with metal decks on three levels and two observation towers. Next to it is the French-style Jardim Poty Lazzarotto, with flower beds, reflecting pools and fountains, honoring the Curitiba-born artist. A 65-meter waterfall pours down the rock wall. Below there is a lake, a walking path and forest with araucaria pines, yerba mate and other native trees.
The walk around the upper area is short and easy. The viewpoint decks are reached by stairs, and going down to the lake takes more energy on the way back up. There is a bistro, a shop and restrooms.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
An hour is enough for the garden, the viewpoint and the view of the waterfall; with the walk down to the lake, allow two hours.
Best time
Late afternoon on a clear day, to watch the sunset from the viewpoint, the park's most famous experience; in the morning the park is quieter for walking.
How to get there
The main entrance is on Rua Oswaldo Maciel, in the Taboão neighborhood, in northern Curitiba, far from downtown. The Linha Turismo stops at the park. You can also go by car (there is parking) or ride-hailing app; walking from downtown is not practical.
Tip
Admission is free. Arrive a little before sunset to enjoy the light at the viewpoint and bring a warm layer, because in Curitiba the temperature drops in late afternoon.
