About Ponta da Pita

Ponta da Pita is a rock formation jutting into the Baía de Antonina, on the Paraná coast, next to a small beach. It is where the waters coming from the Atlantic meet the slopes of the Serra do Mar, in a setting of calm bay surrounded by mountains.

The name comes from the pita, a coastal plant that fishermen used to make floats for their nets. On site are remains of a sambaqui, an archaeological site formed by shells and oyster shells left by the region's ancient prehistoric inhabitants.

The spot is popular for fishing from the rocks and taking in the view of the bay. There are bars and restaurants nearby.

Access is free and takes no physical effort, but the rocks can be slippery. Before going into the water, check the water quality report from the Instituto Água e Terra (IAT), which monitors the site.
