Praia da Ilha da Madeira

A former island now linked to the mainland, it has a small strip of sand with coconut palms and calm, greenish water on the Baía de Sepetiba. Fishing boats at anchor complete the scene, especially at sunset.

About Praia da Ilha da Madeira

Praia da Ilha da Madeira is in a neighborhood of Itaguaí that was once an island in the Baía de Sepetiba and is now linked to the mainland. So you can drive there, but the place still has the feel of a fishing village.

The strip of sand is small, with coconut palms shading the shore. The sea is calm and greenish, without waves, and many fishing boats are anchored near the sand. Forest-covered hills rise in the background.

It's a neighborhood beach, frequented by residents and families, especially in summer. Across the street there are a few simple bars, with tables near the sand and fish dishes.

The community keeps its caiçara culture alive, and there are fishing boat trips to the neighboring beaches and coves. The area also lives alongside port activity: the Porto Sudeste terminal is on Ilha da Madeira itself.
