About Praia do Toque

Praia do Toque (beach) is in São Miguel dos Milagres, on the north coast of Alagoas. It is part of the Rota Ecológica dos Milagres (Ecological Route), a stretch of quiet beaches within the Costa dos Corais region.

The waterfront is a long strip of white sand, shaded by a dense coconut grove. Many stretches are almost empty, even in high season, because the beach has few businesses and almost no vendors. The sea is usually calm, with clear, greenish water, protected by the line of reefs.

The big outing is the natural pools of Toque. At low tide, the reefs are exposed and form pools of shallow, clear water, where you can swim and watch fish. You get there on fishermen's jangadas (rafts), which leave right from the beach.

It is a beach for those seeking peace and quiet, walks on the sand and swimming without the bustle. The calm sea appeals to families with children, but the jangada ride and walking on the reefs require some balance.

Practical information

How much time to set aside

Set aside half a day for the beach and the trip to the natural pools, or the whole day to relax at your own pace.

Best time

From September to March, when it rains less and the sun is more constant; always go at low tide, ideally on the lowest tides, when the natural pools appear and the water is clearer.

How to get there

The beach is in São Miguel dos Milagres, about 100 km from Maceió, on the north coast of Alagoas. By car, follow the north coast road to the town; from the road, sandy streets among coconut palms lead to the waterfront.

Tip

Check the tide table before you go and book the jangada trip for low tide. Don't step on the corals, and bring sunscreen, water and snacks, because there is little for sale on the sand.
