About Praia do Porto da Rua
Praia do Porto da Rua (beach) is in São Miguel dos Milagres, on the north coast of Alagoas, on the Rota Ecológica dos Milagres (Ecological Route), within the Costa dos Corais. It grew up around a fishing village that still lives from the sea, and the colorful jangadas (rafts) resting on the sand are part of the landscape.
The sea is calm and shallow, protected by the reefs. At low tide the water recedes a long way, sandbanks appear and pools form among the corals. Sometimes you have to walk quite a distance before the water gets deeper. The strip of sand is long and surrounded by coconut palms.
It is also one of the departure points for the jangadas that go to the region's natural pools, a trip that only happens at low tide. The jangada operators offer the trip right on the beach.
Porto da Rua is one of the villages with the most facilities on the route, with basic shops, beachfront bars and seaside restaurants. That is why it is busier than the neighboring beaches. If you want total peace and quiet, walk a bit along the sand, away from the central stretch. The shallow sea with no waves appeals to families with children.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough for the beach; set aside the whole day if you include the jangada trip to the natural pools.
Best time
In the sunniest months, generally from September to March, and always at low tide, when the pools appear and the jangadas go out; check the tide table before you go.
How to get there
It is in São Miguel dos Milagres, on the north coast of Alagoas. From Maceió, take the AL-101 Norte highway to the Rota Ecológica dos Milagres; the village is reached by the road that crosses the municipality. A car is the most practical way to get around the beaches on the route.
Tip
Arrange the jangada trip directly with the jangada operators on the sand and set the time by the tide table: at high tide there are no pools to see.
