Japaratinga is about 120 km from Maceió, on the AL-101 Norte, and 11 km from Maragogi, where the nearest bus station is. To Porto de Pedras, to the south, there is a ferry across the Rio Manguaba (river) that carries cars. Nearest airport: Maceió; Recife's also works.
How many days
One day for the Croa de São Bento (sandbank) and the beaches. The town is quiet and works as a base for exploring Maragogi and the Rota Ecológica without staying somewhere busy.
When to go
From September to March there is more sun. The rains are concentrated roughly from April to July. The natural pools only appear at low tide. The town's founding anniversary is celebrated on July 23.
Do you need a car?
For the town's beaches, which are close by, you can get around on foot and by taxi. For Maragogi, Porto de Pedras and São Miguel dos Milagres, a car helps.

How do I get to the Croa de São Bento?
By catamaran, speedboat or jangada (raft), in about 20 minutes. Only at low tide: at high tide, the trips are canceled.
Does the ferry to Porto de Pedras take cars?
Yes. It crosses the Rio Manguaba (river) and shortens the trip along the Rota Ecológica. In high season there may be a line; the alternative is to go around through Porto Calvo, about 25 km longer.
Is Japaratinga good for kids?
Yes. Beaches such as Bitingui and Boqueirão have calm water and few people.
