Things to do in Sabará
- Capela de Nossa Senhora do Ó A small chapel from the early 18th century, considered one of the richest examples of the Minas Gerais Baroque. The interior has gilded woodcarving and paintings in red, blue and gold with Asian influence.
- Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição A three-nave main church from the early 18th century, considered one of the richest of its time in gilded woodcarving. The floor holds old tombstones and the ceiling has painted wooden coffers.
- Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo Begun in 1763, it received works by Aleijadinho between 1771 and 1774, such as the doorway, the pulpits and sculptures. Protected by Iphan (Brazil's national heritage institute), it is an example of the Minas Gerais Rococo.
- Teatro Municipal (Casa da Ópera) Opened in 1819, it is considered the second-oldest theater still operating in Brazil. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium with wooden boxes follows the Elizabethan model and still hosts cultural programs.
- Chafariz do Kaquende Built in 1757, it has supplied the town with water for more than two centuries and is one of the landmarks of the historic center. The facade still shows traces of the Portuguese coat of arms, torn off after Independence.
