About Forte Marechal Luz
Forte Marechal Luz occupies an elevated sector of the ponta de João Dias, in the north of São Francisco do Sul. The fortification is linked to the defense of the island's maritime entrance, with an artillery battery and views of the coast. Its name honors marechal Francisco Carlos da Luz, tying the site to Brazilian military memory.
The trip to the fort is different from the walk in the Centro Histórico: it requires a specific transfer to the north of the island and access is subject to the rules of the person in charge of the military complex. Check which areas can be visited and whether scheduling or identification will be required. Viewing the landscape and the equipment must be done in authorized spaces, and access to installations used for military purposes should not be assumed. Wind and rain conditions also affect how long you can remain in the open sector.
