About Parque Capitão Ciríaco

The Parque Capitão Ciríaco preserves a piece of rubber estate within Rio Branco. It is in the Seis de Agosto neighborhood, in the Segundo Distrito, near the Rio Acre, and the city presents it as the only urban rubber estate in Brazil.

The land belonged to Ciríaco Joaquim de Oliveira, a fighter in the Acre Revolution, who received it from Plácido de Castro along with the title of captain. The family kept the rubber estate for decades, until the city bought the land and opened the park in 1994. Today it is a historic, architectural, landscape and environmental heritage site of the city.

The walk takes you among hundreds of rubber trees and very old trees, some brought from Belém and Manaus at the captain's request. Along the way are the Casa do Seringueiro (Rubber Tapper's House), the Capela Nossa Senhora da Seringueira (chapel), the small house where the family lived and a collection of items about Ciríaco's life and the rubber boom.

The park is managed by the Fundação Garibaldi Brasil and welcomes tourists and school groups, as well as free cultural and sports activities for the community. It is a short, relaxed outing, good if you want to understand how a rubber estate worked without leaving the city.
