About Praia de Ipioca

Praia de Ipioca is on Maceió's north coast, far from the bustle of urban beaches like Pajuçara and Ponta Verde. It is a wide, long strip of sand, with long stretches that are almost empty and a belt of coconut palms right behind the beach.

Ipioca marks the start of one of the best-preserved areas of the Costa dos Corais (Coral Coast), the great reef barrier that runs along the coast of Alagoas to Pernambuco. Because of the reefs, the sea is usually calm, warm and clear, good for children.

At low tide, the sea recedes and natural pools form among the reefs, with small fish. That is when the beach is best for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding and walking on the sand.

The shore has little development by the water and almost no street vendors. Facilities are concentrated in the beach clubs and resorts, which offer chairs, restaurants and tours. If you are looking for peace and space, this is an alternative to the downtown beaches.
