About Praia da Tabatinga

Praia da Tabatinga (beach) is the last beach in Caraguatatuba heading north, on the border with Ubatuba, on the São Paulo North Coast. It sits in a sheltered cove surrounded by Atlantic Forest hills, with a wide strip of sand and shallow water with almost no waves.

The calm sea makes it popular with families with children and with water sports fans. In the cove you often see speedboats, sailboats, jet skis and kayaks, and some people go stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and waterskiing.

At one end, the Rio Tabatinga (river) meets the sea, forming a freshwater stretch worth exploring. Boats leave from the beach to Ilha do Tamanduá, the largest island in Caraguatatuba, popular for its small beaches and snorkeling.

The shore is lined with vacation homes and gated communities, and the beach is usually quiet outside high season. There are kiosks renting chairs and umbrellas, but facilities are simpler than at the downtown beaches.
