About Parque Estadual do Cocó

The Parque Estadual do Cocó is Fortaleza's big green space. It follows the Rio Cocó and protects mangrove, dunes and riverside forest in the middle of the city.

The area was protected gradually over decades and became a state park in 2017. It is one of the largest natural parks in an urban area in Brazil and is home to dozens of fish species and more than a hundred bird species.

Visitors walk the paved paths, have picnics, take children to the playgrounds and follow trails through the mangrove. There are also boat rides on the river. On Sundays, the Viva o Parque project offers free activities.

Entry is free. Pets are not allowed on the trails.
