Praia do Patacho

A dense coconut grove, light sand and almost no buildings: it is the postcard image of the Rota Ecológica. At low tide, shallow pools form by the reefs.

About Praia do Patacho

Praia do Patacho (beach) is in Porto de Pedras, on the north coast of Alagoas. It is part of the Rota Ecológica dos Milagres (Ecological Route), within the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area. It is one of the most photographed beaches in the state.

The landscape is a dense coconut grove, a wide strip of light sand and a calm sea, protected by a reef barrier. There is little development: a few pousadas (guesthouses), a beach club and a few simple stalls, with no buildings or boardwalk.

At low tide, the reefs form natural pools of shallow, clear water. You can reach some of them by walking through the water or take a jangada (raft) trip with locals. The rest of the day, the plan is to walk on the sand, swim and rest in the shade of the coconut palms.

It is a beach for those seeking peace and nature. It appeals to couples, to families with children, thanks to the sea with no waves, and to those who enjoy photography.

Practical information

How much time to set aside

Set aside at least half a day; many people spend the whole day.

Best time

From September to March, when it rains less, and always at low tide, which exposes the natural pools; check the tide table before you go.

How to get there

By car on the AL-101 Norte highway, which links Maceió to the north coast of Alagoas. There is parking by the beach. There is no direct bus, so the most practical way is to go by car or with an agency.

Tip

Time your visit with low tide and don't step on or touch the reefs: they are protected, even when they are out of the water. There are few businesses, so bring water and sunscreen.
