About Praia de Peroba
Praia de Peroba (beach) is on the north coast of Maragogi, right on the border between Alagoas and Pernambuco. It is one of the most peaceful beaches in the municipality, much less busy than the central waterfront.
The strip of sand is wide and light, lined with coconut palms, and the sea is usually calm, with warm, clear water. Coral reefs lie close to the shore and, at low tide, form shallow natural pools that you can reach without a boat.
Facilities along the shore are limited, with few businesses, and the beach has the feel of a fishing village. That is why it is usually empty on weekdays and appeals to families with children and to those looking for peace and quiet.
At high tide, the corals are covered and can cause injuries: enter the sea carefully. The beach is also included on buggy tours along the north coast of Maragogi.
Before you go
Practical information
How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough to walk, swim and enjoy the natural pools at low tide.
Best time
Go at low tide, when the natural pools appear; check the tide table first. Sunny days make the water clearer, and weekdays are the emptiest.
How to get there
It is at the northern end of the Maragogi coast, on the border with Pernambuco. From the center, drive along the road that follows the north coast, passing Barra Grande, Antunes and Ponta de Mangue. You can also get there on buggy tours.
Tip
Bring water, snacks and an umbrella, because there is little for sale on the sand, and wear neoprene water shoes to walk over the corals.
