About Praia de Bitingui
Praia de Bitingui (beach) is one of the beaches of Japaratinga, on the north coast of Alagoas. The town is on the Costa dos Corais, a stretch of reefs and clear sea that runs from Maceió to southern Pernambuco. Japaratinga began as a fishing settlement, and Bitingui keeps that laid-back feel.
The sea is calm, clean and almost without waves. The beach is uncrowded and has many vacation homes and a few pousadas (guesthouses) near the sand. Coconut palms line the strip of sand, as along much of the town's waterfront.
The calm water is good for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling. There is a beach stall with chairs and umbrellas, but facilities are simple, without the row of bars found at other beaches in the region.
It is a good choice for families with children and for those who want to rest. Keep an eye on the tide table: at high tide, the water covers almost the entire strip of sand.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough for swimming and relaxing; those staying there usually spend the whole day.
Best time
From September to March, when it rains less on the Alagoas coast, in the morning and at low tide, when there is more sand and the sea is even shallower and calmer.
How to get there
It is on the Japaratinga coast, with access via the AL-101 Norte highway. The most practical way is by car or taxi from the town center; if you are staying at the beach pousadas, you can walk.
Tip
Check the tide table before you go: at high tide the strip of sand almost disappears and the beach stalls pack up their chairs and umbrellas.
