About Praia do Porto e Ilha do Coqueiro Solitário

Praia do Porto (beach) is in Barreiros, on the south coast of Pernambuco, about 7 km from the town center. It is famous for a small rocky island with a single coconut palm, the Ilha do Coqueiro Solitário (Lone Coconut Palm Island), which stands out near the strip of sand.

This stretch of coast is about 4.5 km long and is divided into three beaches: Mamucabinha to the north, Praia do Porto in the center and Val do Una to the south. The beach is also called Porto de Nassau, a name tied to local history: the area is considered one of the possible landing points of the Dutch during the period of Dutch Brazil, drawn by the area's sugarcane mills.

The beach was a setting for the soap opera A Indomada, by Rede Globo, aired in 1997. Today it is little developed and has almost no facilities, with light sand, rounded rocks and native vegetation around it.

The outing is for those who enjoy a quiet beach and natural scenery. Don't expect stalls, shops or services on the sand.
