About Estação das Docas
The Estação das Docas is Belém's old port turned into a leisure space on the edge of the Baía do Guajará. It has three iron warehouses lined up along about 500 meters of waterfront, with restaurants, bars, craft shops, an exhibition space, a theater and a boat terminal.
The port was built in the early 20th century, during the rubber era, when Belém exported to the world. After decades of neglect, the warehouses were restored and the complex opened in 2000. The iron framework of the warehouses and the old dockside cranes were kept, and today they are the signature of the place.
The most famous outing is the late afternoon: stroll along the promenade among the cranes, sit outside and watch the sun set over the bay. Inside the warehouses there is food from Pará, ice cream made with Amazon fruits and, at night, live music. Boat trips around the bay and to nearby islands depart from the terminal.
Admission is free. The promenade is flat and the visit is easy for all ages.
