About Museu Parque Seringal

The Museu Parque Seringal is a public green space of about 12,000 m² in the Cidade Nova VIII development, in the Coqueiro neighborhood of Ananindeua. It preserves a grove of rubber trees, remnants of old rubber plantations in the municipality. Many of the trees date from the 1940s.

The land was preserved as housing developments grew around it. In 2012, a municipal law turned the area into a museum and park, aiming to honor the memory of the rubber boom in Ananindeua and to use the grove for environmental education. It is considered the city's first museum.

The visit is short and flat. A path crosses the grove among flower beds and signs explaining the history of the rubber plantations. There is a memorial recreating the work and living environment of the rubber tapper, an amphitheater, an outdoor gym and a playground for children.

It is a neighborhood spot, more for a break in the shade and an open-air lesson about rubber than for a full day. It appeals to families with children, schools and anyone interested in Amazon history.
